What is Pitra Dosh Shanti ?
Pitra Dosh Shanti (also spelled Pitru Dosh) is a significant astrological defect or karmic imbalance that occurs when ancestors’ souls (Pitrs) are not at peace due to unfinished rituals, wrong deeds, or unfulfilled responsibilities of their descendants.

पितृ दोष शांति पूजा एक पवित्र हिंदू अनुष्ठान है, जिसे उन पूर्वजों (पितरों) की आत्मा की शांति के लिए किया जाता है, जो किसी कारणवश असंतुष्ट या अशांत होती हैं। वैदिक ज्योतिष में, पितृ दोष को एक कर्मिक ऋण या आध्यात्मिक असंतुलन माना जाता है, जो व्यक्ति की कुंडली में तब उत्पन्न होता है जब पूर्वजों का विधिवत श्राद्ध, तर्पण या सम्मान नहीं किया गया हो, या यदि उनकी मृत्यु अकाल या अपूर्ण रीति से हुई हो। इस दोष के कारण व्यक्ति को जीवन में विवाह में देरी, संतान संबंधी समस्याएं, आर्थिक संकट, स्वास्थ्य संबंधी परेशानियां या पारिवारिक कलह जैसी बाधाओं का सामना करना पड़ता है। इन समस्याओं को दूर करने और पितरों की कृपा प्राप्त करने हेतु पितृ दोष शांति पूजा की जाती है।
यह पूजा आमतौर पर पवित्र स्नान से प्रारंभ होती है, जिसमें व्यक्ति किसी पवित्र नदी या कुंड में स्नान करता है जिससे शरीर और मन दोनों की शुद्धि होती है। इसके बाद योग्य पंडित के मार्गदर्शन में संकल्प लिया जाता है कि यह पूजा पितरों की शांति के लिए की जा रही है। इसके बाद तर्पण (जल, तिल और जौ द्वारा जल अर्पण), पिंड दान (चावल के गोले बनाकर आत्मा को समर्पित करना) और हवन किया जाता है। हवन में विशेष वैदिक मंत्रों और आहुतियों द्वारा दिव्य ऊर्जा को आमंत्रित किया जाता है।

Pitra Dosh Shanti Puja is a sacred Hindu ritual performed to pacify the souls of ancestors (Pitras) who may be dissatisfied or unsettled due to various reasons. In Vedic astrology, Pitra Dosh is considered a karmic debt or spiritual imbalance that occurs in a person’s horoscope when the ancestors are not properly honored or if they faced untimely or unnatural deaths. This dosha (flaw) can bring various hardships in life such as delay in marriage, childlessness, financial difficulties, chronic health issues, or family disputes. To overcome these obstacles and to seek blessings from the ancestral realm, Pitra Dosh Shanti Puja is performed with devotion and proper rituals.
The puja typically begins with a purification process, including a holy bath in a sacred river or kund, symbolizing physical and spiritual cleansing. Then, under the guidance of a qualified priest (Pandit), the individual performing the puja takes a Sankalp (spiritual vow) to conduct the ritual for the peace and salvation of their ancestors. The core components of the ritual include Tarpan (offering of water mixed with sesame seeds and barley), Pind Daan (offering of rice balls symbolizing the body of the departed souls), and havan (fire ritual) where Vedic mantras and sacred offerings are made to invoke divine blessings and spiritual energy.
